Golconda!

Golconda seems to have been cursed for me – it is such a great place to get spectacular photographs, and yet the last three times I’ve been there, it has been only in the evening in the fading light. Finally, after a lot of planning we managed to get there during the day, only to have a rainy visit from which I managed to get a few decent pictures.

After planning for more than a week, six of us managed to get together and make the visit. After a tortuous and circuitous route through the city, mainly because of my warped sense of direction, Vidya, Amrita, Kamalika, Niharika, Sameer and I found ourselves at the fort at about two in the afternoon. The rain was always there – it was merely alternating between a light drizzle and a steady downpour.

We walked all the way to the top, getting thoroughly soaked in the process. We nevertheless had a rollicking time, mainly because of Sameer’s incessant humour, ably supported by Amrita and Kamalika’s incredulous reactions. Without missing a beat, he pointed out the place where Qutub Quli Shah used to get his morning shave, the place where Akbar was buried and the spot where Lady Mountbatten slipped and fell and met her maker!

  1. Hi! The picture of u and Vidya sharing an umbrella is a really cute one.

I climbed up Golconda as a kid on a trip arranged for the school staff and their kids. Then years later, as part of a PRSI meet, I enjoyed the light and sound show in the evening.
